At this moment when another fierce fire is raging across the ridges of Big Sur's Santa Lucia mountains it is especially important to honor trees such as this, a noble madrone which survived a similar fire 15 or 20 years ago, with scars, to seed another generation of madrones. Let's hope they have a chance to grow to their full beauty.
